Some of my highlights

My personal journey as a college student resulted in a strong foundation in the liberal arts focusing on critical thinking and effective communication; with loving family roots I added strong values on building meaningful relationships and always working collaboratively with a team. There isn’t a single day that passes where I don’t learn something new about myself or my teammates. The beginning of my passion for higher education started in college, where I learned I wanted to work with college students as a career — given my experience as an RA — and I combined and  developed my love for team sports and leadership opportunities as captain of the women’s basketball team.

I learned early – and often – that positive thinking, encouraging others, maintaining integrity, and a willingness to try new things resulted in positive outcomes for students through my 35 years as a professional in higher education – and that all results in positive outcomes for me personally and professionally, too. Some of my favorite memories involve observing the achievements of students who weren’t sure, being there for those who needed some support, or simply creating meaningful opportunities for students to convince themselves of their abilities.

Every day — being with people I love, doing work that inspires and motivates me, and the smiles of my family crossing many generations. I thank those colleagues who believed in me and encouraged me to try — even at times I wasn’t sure whether I was on the right track — and the wisdom of a friend and colleague who once reminded me that the “detour” we experiences may just be the journey we were supposed to take.

Family, friends, music of every type, a little golf, a chance to swim, or opportunities to walk on the beach — each helps me learn, grow, think and challenge myself. As one song’s lyrics remind us — Life is a journey — not a destination!!
