With multiple positions available, this incoming group of psychologists will benefit from a shared experience of onboarding and training with other new clinicians, while integrating with the center’s multidisciplinary team of mental health counselors, social workers, psychologists, treatment and education coordinators, administrative staff, and trainees.

About Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS is deeply committed to the health and wellness of FSU students, and student feedback reflects this—landing the center among the top 25 colleges with the best counseling services for the past three years in a row, according to The Princeton Review. CAPS offers both in-person and telehealth options and provides a wide variety of services including individual, couples, and group counseling; alcohol and other drug services; eating disorder treatment; crisis intervention; referrals; and education and outreach. The center’s team of over 40 multidisciplinary providers plays an instrumental role in ensuring the provision of services that effectively meet the needs of the University’s diverse student population. In addition, CAPS is invested in preparing the next generation of providers through its robust training programs, including the APA-accredited Doctoral Internship in Health Service Psychology; Master’s Internships in Counseling, Art Therapy, and Social Work; Doctoral Practicum Training Program; and Psychology Residency in Health Service Psychology.

Job Responsibilities

  • (55%) Provide direct psychological services to FSU students including individual, couples, and group counseling; conduct clinical assessments and formulate diagnoses and treatment plans; provide initial contact assessments, crisis intervention, and biopsychosocial evaluations for students; and provide clinical consultations to family members and campus community constituents.
  • (15%) Complete required documentation associated with clinical services such as biopsychosocial evaluations, emergency evaluations, progress notes, and termination summaries according to established policies and procedures.
  • (15%) Serve the greater FSU community through providing outreach presentations, program consultation, and prevention programming and serving on CAPS and University committees.
  • (10%) Provide clinical supervision and/or training of interns in CAPS’ American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Doctoral Psychology Internship in Health Service Psychology and the Master’s Internship Program; this may include providing presentations and/or leading training seminars.
  • (5%) Provide written comprehensive psychological assessment batteries or relevant testing to University students; psychologists will score, interpret, and review psychological assessments.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Doctorate in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an APA-accredited program; must be conferred within 90 days of hire
  • Licensed as a psychologist in the State of Florida (in accordance with Chapter 490, F.S.) or able to obtain licensure within two years of hire
  • Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations related to the practice of psychology and mental health counseling
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures related to psychological counseling, assessments, and group psychotherapy
  • Knowledge of mental health evaluation instruments and ability to interpret results
  • Skill in assessment and treatment of persons from diverse populations
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to manage crises and handle sensitive information effectively
  • Ability to effectively train and direct the work of others especially as it relates to group psychotherapy
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to prepare, coordinate, and conduct workshops
  • Ability to maintain and improve personal and team effectiveness and foster change and creativity
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions
