Affiliate Consultant

Dan joined Keeling & Associates in 2026, bringing over 35 years of experience in higher education. He has worked extensively with public community colleges and systems, public universities, independent liberal arts colleges, and multi institution consortia, and has served as a thought partner to presidents, cabinets, and boards on strategy, finance, and implementation. Dan’s particular strength is the combination of facilitation and analysis: he can build the financial model underneath a strategic conversation and then help a leadership team agree on what it means.

Prior to joining K&A, Dan spent nearly a decade as a consultant to more than 80 colleges, universities, systems, associations, and foundations. His work has included strategic plan development and implementation, shared services audits and design across consortia and entire state sectors, academic program demand and gap analysis, board facilitation, and executive coaching for presidents and cabinet members. Increasingly he is asked to help with implementation, where a plan exists and needs to be moved from paper into practice. Earlier in his career, Dan held senior leadership roles at organizations serving colleges and universities with course materials, research tools, and labor market and program level data, including responsibility for the business that gave institutions the analytics to align academic programs with workforce demand. That experience gave him a working understanding of how education markets move and what happens inside an institution when its revenue assumptions prove wrong.

Dan earned his bachelor of science in marketing at Ohio University. He lives in Providence, Rhode Island with his wife, where he serves as Executive Director of Propel Gallery, a contemporary art venture, and volunteers with Read to a Child and The Business of Doing Good. He is a longtime collector of contemporary art, a vinyl record collector, and an enthusiast of food, wine, and travel.
