Jacqueline Alvarez, PhD
Affiliate Consultant
Jackie joined Keeling & Associates in 2025, bringing 35 years of experience in higher education and mental health care. She is a licensed psychologist, and has worked extensively in both small liberal arts colleges and large public research universities. Consultation and coaching have been a part of her daily work, as she regularly strategized with individuals, departments, divisions, senior leadership, and Board of Trustees to effect changes in university systems that benefit student learning and psychological wellbeing. She has proven herself to be a helpful thought-partner, strategist, co-creator, and organizational developer.
Prior to joining K&A, Jackie spent her career at the intersection of clinical practice, teaching, administration and consultation, most recently serving at Amherst College as Associate Dean for Health and Wellbeing and Director of the Counseling Center. In addition to providing psychotherapy to students, she also taught undergraduates, graduate students and medical residents about the theory and practice of psychology. Passionate about creating psychological wellbeing across campuses so that counseling services were not the only resource available to students with struggles, she developed robust mental health promotion programs, such as mental health first aid training for faculty, staff and students. Organizational development is another strength, as Jackie has had opportunities to create new offices for Counseling and Health Services from the ground up, as well as making services within well-established programs more accessible, effective, culturally appropriate, and better resourced. Throughout all of these activities, she regularly used a wide array of assessments to assure outstanding program quality and effectiveness.
Jackie earned her bachelor of arts in psychology and sociology at the University of Notre Dame, and went on to receive her M.A. and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in counseling psychology. She lives in the serene woods of western Massachusetts with her wife, and is a proud mother, avid gardener, baker of delicious things, long-distance hiker, yoga enthusiast, and hungry reader.
