Suzanne R. Coffey, MPP
Senior Vice President and Senior Consultant
Suzanne joined K&A in 2020 as a senior consultant with 35 years of experience in higher education including leadership in senior positions, most recently as Chief Student Affairs Officer at Amherst College. As K&A’s Senior Vice President, she focuses on executive coaching and strategic and implementation planning in student affairs and athletics & recreation.
Suzanne has a proven track record of helping institutions align their strategies and achieve their vision by providing thought-partnership in the development of actionable goals with practical implementation steps. Her experience includes projects working with large public universities, prestigious liberal arts colleges, and non-profit national and international organizations. She has consulted with and provided executive coaching for vice presidents, associate vice presidents, and other leaders in higher education. In projects ranging from coaching cabinet level leaders to executing university-wide strategic plans to assisting stand-alone centers with future strategy, Suzanne brings deep experience and interest in the study and implementation of organizational change processes and in designing inclusive organizational culture.
As Chief Student Affairs Officer (CSAO) at Amherst College, Suzanne led the restructuring of the College’s student affairs division—helping advance the undergraduate experience in health and counseling, residence life, student activities, orientation, and community standards. This work included modernizing counseling and health services, establishing accessibility and case management services, and creating a unique student advising model.
Before serving as Amherst’s inaugural CSAO, Suzanne enjoyed a long career in college athletics, including stints as Amherst’s Director of Athletics and as Associate Professor and Director of Athletics at Bates College. With nearly 30 years in athletics leadership, Suzanne is a respected voice in college sports; she has received multiple honors including national administrator of the year. She has extensive experience in national athletics governance and has served as chairperson of multiple National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) committees.
Suzanne earned her Master of Arts in Public Policy at the University of Southern Maine’s Edmund Muskie School of Public Policy and her bachelor’s degree in studio art at the University of New Hampshire. She resides in coastal Maine, and is an active outdoor enthusiast and artist.
