Georgia Southern University is seeking a dynamic, student-centered licensed psychologist to serve as the next Associate Director for Clinical Services on their Statesboro campus—located in one of the fastest growing areas in the state and the country, just an hour from historic Savannah. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director will oversee the provision of mental health services at the University Counseling Center, using best practices and a data-informed approach, while also providing direct care to students and serving as a resource to the broader campus community. About the Counseling Center
The University Counseling Center strives to increase the mental health and resilience of the campus community through its provision of direct clinical services, outreach programming and consultation, and professional training—all through a lens of diversity awareness and social justice. Accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS), the Center offers individual and relationship counseling, group therapy, outreach programs and workshops, case management, and crisis intervention. These services are delivered by a dedicated and multidisciplinary clinical team, including licensed psychologists, counselors, social workers, and doctoral- and masters-level trainees. Of note, the University is a JED Campus, committed to enhancing campus emotional wellbeing and mental health promotion efforts, reducing substance misuse, and preventing suicide through this nationwide initiative.
Position Summary
The Associate Director will:
- Monitor the provision of direct mental health services at the University Counseling Center, based on Counseling Center policies and procedures, and provide direct mental health care to students
- Ensure adherence to best standards and practices based on the Counseling Center model, ethical codes, IACS and American Psychological Association (APA) accreditation standards, applicable state and federal statutes, local health and safety laws and regulations, and the University’s risk management policies and procedures
- Provide administrative and counseling supervision to counseling staff members, as assigned by the Executive Director, and provide clinical supervision to practicum students and doctoral interns
- Provide outreach programming, professional training, and consultations to the Georgia Southern community (faculty, staff, students) on a variety of college student mental health issues
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in maintenance of relevant Counseling Center accreditations
- Compile, monitor, and report to the Executive Director data regarding services provided by the Counseling Center staff
- In the absence of the Executive Director, oversee and maintain responsibility for Counseling Center services on the Statesboro campus
- Serve as a direct supervisor for Counseling Center staff and provide supervision toward licensure for new staff, as assigned by the Executive Director
- Maintain all relevant ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice for Licensed Psychologists in the state of Georgia
- Maintain compliance with Counseling Center policies and procedures
- Maintain clinical databases
- Oversee Counseling Center research
- Provide individual, relationship, and group therapy to Georgia Southern students
- Provide crisis on-call service in rotation with other clinical staff; provide crisis/triage assessment and response to students as needed
- Participate in various training programs housed within the Counseling Center
- Coordinate one or more areas of Counseling Center service as requested by the Executive Director
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
- PhD or PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology
- Licensure as a Psychologist and ability to obtain licensure as a Psychologist in Georgia within six months of start date
- Three or more years of post-licensure related work experience
- Experience providing clinical and administrative supervision
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience working in a university counseling center
- Experience with data presentation and familiarity with principles and practices of statistical analysis
- Experience with crisis intervention
- Experience and skill with public speaking
- Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record systems and ability to document clinical interactions via these systems
- Familiarity with APA and IACS accreditation standards
Competencies and Skills:
- Knowledgeable about American Psychological Association (APA) and American Counseling Association (ACA) ethical codes and Georgia legal statutes pertaining to provision of mental health services
- Knowledgeable about counseling theories, mental health diagnoses, interventions, treatment planning, and therapeutic outcomes
- Understanding of social, developmental, and psychological issues and challenges faced by students within higher education
- Effective clinical and therapeutic skills to foster positive therapeutic relationships with students
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Ability to manage a caseload of individual, couples, and group therapy clients
- Ability to adapt to College Counseling Center Service Models
- Demonstrated ability to present outreach programming on mental health topics
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure sensitive information
